Clair Huffaker's novel, Flaming Lance, was first published in 1958.
This 1960 Crest Books edition gives prominence to the name of the film, rather than to the original title of the book. During production, the film had been variously called Black Star, Broken Lance, Broken Arrow and even Flaming Lance, before settling on Flaming Star. Elvis, however, fails to get a mention.
